brothers moving moving with large appliances

Major appliances are likely to be the most expensive possessions you own. The last thing you want is to damage these items during transit.

First off, it is important to clean all of your major appliances like: Refrigerators, washing machines, toaster ovens, etc. Ensure you leave enough time to allow them to dry after washing them, as well.

From here, there are specific packing tips for each appliance. Here are a few to help you out:

Fridge and Freezer

  • Empty and unplug power cord prior to washing.
  • Pack away all loose parts (bins and shelves)
  • If you have a water dispenser or ice-maker, turn off the water and disconnect the waterline, then empty the all the water out.

  • Disconnect all hoses, and empty them.
  • Allow the dishwasher to “air out” by leaving the door open for a few days prior to moving.
  • If you like you can wrap the hoses and store them in the dishwasher for safe keeping during the move.

  • Cleaning the stove is one of the most important things to can do before moving it as the grease will catch pretty much anything that it touches – which will make it pretty grimy upon arrival.
  • Detach all removable parts (shelves, etc.) and pack safely.
  • If you own a gas stove, make sure you get a qualified technician to disconnect your oven and cap the gas line. Again when you arrive you will most likely need professional help to reconnect the gas line.

Other major appliances to take special care of while moving include:

  • Washing machine
  • Clothes Dryer
  • Microwave
